This documentary celebrates the engineering of Indigenous structures and how they reflect social organization and connection to the land. From the communal culture of the longhouse and the teachings of the tipi to the celestial and social relationships of America’s first city, we learn how Indigenous structures reflect culture, identity, and meaning.

Host Randy Herrmann engages with Elders, Knowledge keepers, and scholars to learn how Longhouse matriarchal social organization impacted design, community, and education. He investigates the genius of tipi structures and how they serve to transmit cultural values through generations. He introduces the first North American city, Cahokia, which served as an artery to the vast trading networks that connected communities to each other.

The third support document of our ReNew World Ideas series features in-depth conversations with educators, Elders, scholars, curators and Knowledge Keepers.

Designed for the classroom teacher, it offers the philosophical principles that underscore action and directs the reader to our website that hosts practical ideas for inquiry based learning. Each conversation takes us deeper into an understanding of culture and Indigenous perspective by examining the purpose and values of the structures created.
